Montana Solar
When LCCDC started working with MT Solar owner Travis Jordan in 2011, he was making rig mats for oil drilling sites. In 2013 he saw a need for a better solar panel mounting structure, and he did what entrepreneurs do – started research and development for a product to meet that need. That same year he custom fabricated the mounts for a parking structure in Missoula, which was the largest installation in the state at the time. His patented design was showcased to Solar Power International in Las Vegas in 2014, and a year later the company had shipped its products to 29 states and two provinces, all from its shop in Charlo, Montana.
LCCDC has worked with Travis through the years on several loans and provided training through workshops and one-on-one technical assistance and consulting. MT Solar has 22 employees, and in spite of the economic downturn in the spring of 2020, business is up. Travis continues the company’s tradition of innovation with their first “cobot” – a human collaborative robot that automates simple welding tasks, freeing up skilled welders for more complex tasks. The future for this company looks bright and sunny.
