Book Talk on Cooperatives at Work!
Cooperatives at Work presents success stories in worker owned-and-governed cooperatives from across the globe. Join authors George Cheney and Charlie Michel for a book talk discussing the ideals of worker cooperatives. This facilitated discussion will provide practical lessons, strategies, and resources based on their lived experience and pioneering research.

Location: Headwaters Foundation (119 West Main Street, Missoula, MT 59802)
Doors will open at 4:30pm for conversation over light refreshments before the talk begins. The program will run from approximately 5-6:30pm. Afterwords, all are invited to linger and continue the discussion with the authors and their fellow participants.
Attendance is free. RSVPs are appreciated via Eventbrite to ensure adequate refreshments.
About the Book
Cooperatives at Work uses contemporary and historical examples to offer lessons onto the future of cooperative practice and grassroots democracy. During registration, you can pre-order a copy of the book for pickup at the event for $15.
Meet the Authors
George Cheney, Ph.D., Purdue University, is a retired professor of organizational communication who has studied and worked with cooperatives for more than 30 years. Alongside research and teaching roles at the universities of Colorado, Illinois, Montana, Texas and Utah, George’s career included intensive study of the Mondragon cooperatives in the Basque Country, Spain, participation in the working group that formed the Austin Cooperative Business Association, and a position at the Ohio Employee Ownership Center at Kent State. George remains active writing op-eds, newsletter articles, and other pieces on the environmental crisis and possibilities for restoration and regeneration.
Charlie Michel, MMCCU, Saint Mary’s University, is Cooperative Development Center Director at Mission West Community Development Partners (Ronan, MT) where he works to strengthen local economies across the Northwest region through people-centered, democratic enterprise.
