About the Program

A Montana Main Street Community

Ronan is a designated Montana Main Street community, part of a statewide network coordinated by the Montana Department of Commerce and the national Main Street America program. Locally, we know this work as Ronan Revitalization. Through a volunteer steering committee and partnerships across town, we work to revitalize downtown Ronan, support local businesses, and make our Main Street a place that draws visitors and serves residents. The effort connects directly to the Pilot Community Tourism Grant Program, which funds many of the projects that bring this vision to life.

01. How We Work

The Main Street Approach

Ronan Revitalization follows the Main Street Approach, a proven framework used in more than 2,000 communities nationwide. It begins with a shared community vision, focuses that vision into clear strategies, and carries the work out through four areas of practice.

Economic Vitality

Capital, incentives, and tools that help new and existing businesses thrive, catalyze property development, and support the entrepreneurs who drive our local economy.

Design

Enhancing the physical and visual character of downtown, from facades and storefronts to signage, lighting, public art, and the streetscape that sets Ronan apart.

Promotion

Positioning downtown Ronan as the heart of the community and a hub of activity, with a positive image that showcases what makes our Main Street worth visiting.

Organization

Building the partnerships, volunteers, and resources that keep revitalization moving, so the work stays strong and sustainable for the long term.

03. Our Focus

Where We Are Focusing Now

Our steering committee has organized its work around four priorities for downtown Ronan.

Economic Vitality

Supporting downtown businesses, filling vacant spaces, and strengthening the local economy through jobs, facade grants, and reinvestment.

Transportation & Walkability

Making downtown easier and safer to move through, with better sidewalks, crosswalks, connectivity, and non-motorized access.

Downtown Design & Beautification

Improving how downtown looks and feels through murals, lighting, street trees, wayfinding signage, and streetscape upgrades.

Destination Ronan

Shifting from a pass-through town to a place people stop and explore, helping visitors find local shops, coffee, parks, and events, with steady growth that fits Ronan.

Rooted in Community Heart & Soul®

Ronan Revitalization is part of Community Heart & Soul®, the resident-driven model created by the Orton Family Foundation and used in more than 140 small towns across the country. It is built on a simple idea: the people who live and work in a place should help shape its future.

The process moves through three steps: involve everyone, focus on what matters most, and play the long game. We gather community input through public conversations, surveys, and committee work, then turn what we hear into priorities that guide real improvements downtown.

Join the Steering Committee

Ronan Revitalization is a community effort, and there are many ways to take part. The steering committee meets quarterly at Mission West CDP, 407 Main St SW, Ronan. Meetings are open and community input is always welcome.
