What We're
Working On
A look at the active initiatives Mission West CDP is running across our four departments, from federal grant programs and environmental assessments to cooperative development and food system infrastructure.
Programs in Motion
Across the Region
Mission West CDP manages a range of grant-funded programs, technical assistance initiatives, and community development projects at any given time. These aren't just services we offer, they're active work happening right now in Lake, Sanders, and Mineral counties and the Flathead Indian Reservation.
Our projects span all four departments, the Business Development Center, the Mission Mountain Food Enterprise Center, the Cooperative Development Center, and Community Economic Development. Many are federally funded and operate on multi-year timelines with defined deliverables and community impact goals.
If you have a project, property, business, or community initiative you think might fit our work, reach out. We're always looking for new ways to put our programs to work for the region.

Downtown Ronan Revitalization
Mission West CDP administers Montana's Pilot Community Tourism Grant Program (PCTGP) for the Ronan area, a 5-year initiative funded by the Montana Department of Commerce. Active projects include façade improvement grants up to $10,000 matching, public art and murals reflecting Indigenous history, tourism infrastructure improvements, and downtown walkability enhancements.
View Program →Brownfields Environmental Assessments
Our EPA-funded Brownfields program provides free Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments to property owners dealing with real or perceived contamination, former gas stations, auto shops, dry cleaners, industrial sites, and more. Assessments are available across Lake, Sanders, and Mineral counties and help unlock property reuse, redevelopment, and economic revitalization.
View Program →Farm to Institution Market Development
We're actively connecting Montana agricultural producers to school food service programs across western Montana, creating reliable, funded market access for local growers while putting fresh food in 50+ school cafeterias. We participate in the USDA Foods in Schools program and work alongside the Montana Office of Public Instruction, Western Montana Growers Cooperative, and Montana Team Nutrition to grow producer participation.
View Program →Montana Local Food Financing Partnership
Mission West CDP manages the MLFFP, a $3M USDA Healthy Food Financing Initiative grant targeting the rural food system in underserved Montana communities. Active work includes grant match funding, credit enhancement, and technical assistance for food hubs, CSAs, grocery stores, and other food retail and supply-chain businesses. Eligible businesses must accept or be working toward SNAP authorization.
View Program →REAP Technical Assistance
Mission West serves as a REAP technical assistance provider for agricultural producers and rural small businesses across our service area. Our REAP Specialist helps clients understand eligibility, navigate the USDA application process, and prepare complete applications for the three annual funding windows. REAP provides grants up to $1M for renewable energy systems and $500K for energy efficiency improvements.
View Program →Cooperative Development Pipeline
Our Cooperative Development Center is actively working with groups across the region at various stages of cooperative formation and development, from exploratory feasibility studies to governance structure, capitalization planning, and board training for established cooperatives. Past work includes the Ronan Cooperative Brewery, Glacier Processing Cooperative, Western Montana Musicians Cooperative, and Northwest Food Hub Network.
